Two Extra Queens For Pawn Promotion

MAGNETIC PIECE RETENTION SYSTEM

Built-in magnets inside every wooden piece lock each one firmly onto its square throughout the entire game, maintaining your position accurately during bumps, tilts, and movement so you can play confidently on any surface and in any setting without constantly repositioning scattered pieces or losing track of where the game stood before the interruption.

FOLDING BOARD WITH VELVET-LINED STORAGE CASE

The board folds cleanly in half and closes with a secure metal latch, revealing fitted black velvet-lined slots inside that hold every one of the 34 pieces individually and securely during transport, preventing rattling, damage, and loss between sessions and making the ZyniChes one of the most self-contained and travel-ready chess sets available at this size and price point.

TWO EXTRA QUEENS FOR CORRECT PAWN PROMOTION

Each colour includes a standard queen plus a dedicated spare queen specifically for pawn promotion, allowing the game to be played correctly according to official rules the moment a pawn reaches the far end of the board without the need to borrow a captured piece or use an improvised stand-in that disrupts the visual clarity of the board during play.

CLASSIC WOODEN STAUNTON-STYLE PIECES

Natural light wood and rich dark-stained wood pieces in a traditional Staunton-inspired design with a detailed carved knight and felt pads on every base deliver a premium playing experience, gliding smoothly across the board without scratching the surface and providing the classic tactile quality that makes wooden chess sets so much more satisfying to play with than plastic alternatives.

BOARD COORDINATE MARKINGS FOR LEARNING

Letters a through h and numbers 1 through 8 printed clearly around all edges of the board help beginners learn and understand chess notation, follow written lessons and tactical puzzles, and develop a proper understanding of board geography from their very first game, making the ZyniChes an ideal learning tool as well as a fully functional playing set.

COMPACT TRAVEL-READY SIZE FOR ANYWHERE

A 24 x 24 cm open board that folds to approximately 24 x 12 cm slips easily into a backpack, suitcase, desk drawer, or carry-on bag, making the ZyniChes a genuinely portable companion for travel days, commutes, holidays, outdoor play, and any situation where a full-size chess set would be impractical to bring along.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the set include two queens per colour?

Official chess rules allow a pawn that reaches the far end of the board to be promoted to any piece except a king, with most players choosing a queen as it is the most powerful piece on the board. Having a dedicated spare queen for each colour means promotion can be handled correctly without borrowing a captured piece or using an object as a stand-in, keeping the board visually clear and the game properly represented at all times.

Is it suitable for young children learning chess for the first time?

Yes. The ZyniChes is recommended for ages 6 and up and is an excellent first chess set for children thanks to the board coordinate markings that aid learning, the included teaching book that covers the rules and basic strategies, and the magnetic pieces that stay in place and are easy for smaller hands to move without disrupting neighbouring pieces accidentally during play.

How secure is the board when folded and carried in a bag?

The board closes with a metal latch and hinges that hold it firmly shut during transport, and the fitted velvet-lined interior slots keep every piece individually secured so nothing moves, rattles, or falls out even if the case is turned upside down or jostled inside a bag during travel. The compact folded size of approximately 24 x 12 cm also means it fits comfortably without taking up significant space alongside other items.

How do I clean and maintain the wooden pieces and board?

Wipe the board and pieces gently with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth to remove dust and surface marks. Avoid exposing the wooden components to excessive moisture, direct sunlight for prolonged periods, or harsh cleaning products that could cause the wood finish to fade, crack, or warp over time. Storing the set closed in its folded board case between games protects both the pieces and the felt-padded playing surface from dust and damage.
